Global label migration at TDK Electronics AG – from legacy Software BarTender to SAP Standard Adobe Document Services.

TDK Electronics AG operates a double-digit number of production plants worldwide and prints customer-specific product and logistics labels there. Over the years, an extensive label landscape has emerged with a four-digit number of label layouts, which was previously created and managed with BarTender.

In the course of the introduction of SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM), TDK Electronics decided to modernize its label architecture in the sense of an SAP Clean Core and replace BarTender with SAP Adobe Document Services (ADS).

Challenge

In addition to migrating a large number of existing labels, layout deviations between plants and label types that had grown over the years also had to be addressed – for example, in fonts, barcode definitions and layout structures.

Solution

Together with 4IoT, the existing label landscape was analysed and transferred to the SAP standard in a structured manner using the Label2SAP migration methodology. In the process, the existing labels were automatically transformed into SAP ADS and at the same time layout and design standards were harmonized.

Result

Migration of a four-digit number of customer labels to the SAP standard

Replacement of the BarTender landscape with SAP ADS

Support for SAP EWM implementation with an SAP-native output solution

Harmonization of fonts, barcodes and layout standards

Global, maintainable label structure across multiple plants

The new solution enables TDK Electronics to create a scalable and future-proof label architecture in the SAP standard and at the same time reduces maintenance costs.

Testimonial, Customers Voice

“As part of our SAP EWM implementation, we wanted to consistently implement our label solution in the SAP standard. With the support of 4IoT, we were able to replace the existing BarTender landscape in a structured way and transfer our numerous labels to SAP ADS. Extremely happy with the automatic Label migration project – in time, in budget!”
